Marketing for a Better World:

How to Effectively Communicate Your Sustainability Efforts.

Sustainability is a major global issue. Back in 2021, Sir David Attenborough joined the UK Prime Minister at the UN Security Council telling its 15 members that it is too late to avoid climate change.

Sir David Attenborough said: “There is no going back – no matter what we do now, it’s too late to avoid climate change and the poorest, the most vulnerable, those with the least security, are now certain to suffer.”

He continued: “If we bring emissions down with sufficient vigour we may yet avoid the tipping points that will make runaway climate change unstoppable. In November this year, at COP26 in Glasgow, we may have out last opportunity to make the necessary step-change.”

As marketers, we have an opportunity to communicate our business’ positioning and initiatives on sustainability. We also have a responsibility to pass those values onto our agencies and the rest of the industry.

The WFA asked its members a series of questions on how their organisations ensure their agencies and marketing suppliers are adopting and driving sustainable initiatives in line with their own. They used the content from 32 multinational organisations, representing 11 different industry sectors that responded to the survey to produce a global best practice report on suggested ways to cascade your sustainability commitments to agencies.

If this is something you are currently considering, please take a moment to read through this excellent report, available in your Members’ Resources.
